Every year during our annual Shearing, Fox Wire Farm Alpacas runs a series of one-hour Shearing Tours so visitors can witness firsthand how we shear our alpacas. During the tour, we discuss all aspects of how alpaca fiber is used to make the products we sell in our store.
In addition to our one-hour Shearing Tours, we also offer two, three-hour Shearing Tour/Tractor-Pulled Hayrides on Shearing Day for those individuals who would like to spend additional time touring the farm and visiting with the other animals after seeing the shearing.
Upon arriving at the shearing barn at the farm, visitors disembark from the bus or hayride and enter the shearing barn to witness fully fleeced “puff balls” being sheared, then see the newly sheared alpacas walk out “butt naked”! Our shearing team is the best in the business! Every year, we shear approximately 80 to 100 alpacas in about 8 hours, so it is quite an exciting production! You will be amazed at how quickly and safely the shearers harvest the fiber from each animal.
Once the date for our 2020 Shearing is set, we will open reservations for seats on either the Shearing Tours or Shearing Tour/Tractor-Pulled Hayrides. In the meantime, you can read below some additional information concerning each type of tour.
One-Hour Shearing Tour
The one-hour Shearing Tour is $10/person, age 5 and up. Cash or check is preferred payment. We can accept all major credit cards; however, a $0.50 convenience fee is applied per person to cover credit and debit card merchant fees.
On the day of the Shearing, all Shearing Tours depart from the Fox Wire Farm Store & Boutique. Departure times are 9:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. Reservations are not required, but strongly recommended!
Shearing Tour/Tractor-Pulled Hayride
The Shearing Tour/Tractor-Pulled Hayride is $35/person, age 5 and up. This very special tour has limited seating for 14 people per tour to provide a fun-filled, intimate opportunity for viewing the Shearing and then experiencing a more comprehensive tour of the farm and our animals, similar to the General Admission Farm Tour. These tours depart promptly from the designated parking area on the farm at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Reservations and pre-payment are required prior to the day of the tour. Participants are given a gate pass/ID badge so they can drive onto the farm to park and meet up with their tour guide at the reserved time in the designated parking area.
