This year on Saturday, April 6, Fox Wire Farm Alpacas will run a series of one-hour Shearing Tours so visitors can witness firsthand how we shear our alpacas. During the tour, we will discuss all aspects of how alpaca fiber is used to make the products we sell in our store.

In addition to our one-hour Shearing Tours, this year we have added two, three-hour Shearing Tour/Tractor-Pulled Hayride to the tour schedule for those individuals who would like to spend additional time touring the farm and visiting with the other animals after the Shearing Tour.

Seats on our Shearing Tours and Shearing Tour/Tractor-Pulled Hayrides are going fast!  If you are interested in reserving a seat on these tours, please call 757.707.5052.

Our shearing team is the best in the business!  Last year, we sheared 90 alpacas in approximately 8 hours, so it was quite an exciting production!

Upon arriving at the shearing barn at the farm, visitors disembark from the bus or hayride and enter the shearing barn to witness fully fleeced “puff balls” being sheared, then see the newly sheared alpacas walk out “butt naked”!  You will be amazed at how quickly and safely the shearers harvest the fiber from each animal.

One-Hour Shearing Tour

The one-hour Shearing Tours are $10/person, age 5 and up. Cash or check is preferred payment. We can accept all major credit cards; however, a $0.50 convenience fee is applied per person to cover credit and debit card merchant fees.

All Shearing Tours depart from the Fox Wire Farm Store & Boutique.  Departure times are 9:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. Reservations are not required, but strongly recommended!

Three-Hour Shearing Tour/Tractor-Pulled Hayride

The three-hour Shearing Tour/Tractor-Pulled Hayride is $35/person, age 5 and up.  This very special tour has limited seating for 15 people per tour to provide a fun-filled, intimate opportunity for viewing the Shearing and then experiencing a more comprehensive tour of the farm and our animals, similar to the Three-Hour General Admission Farm Tour. These tours depart promptly from the designated parking area on the farm at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Reservations and pre-payment are required prior to the day of the tour.  Participants will be given a gate pass/ID badge so they can drive onto the farm to park and meet up with their tour guide at the reserved time in the designated parking area.
