Historic Day at The Ordinary in New Kent County, Virginia

 

"The Ordinary", was built in 1691 and served as an Inn and Tavern during the Colonial period. This building is said to be one of the most structuraly sound buildings that still exist from that time period. The land has recently been purchased, and yours truly, Fox Wire Farm has been invited to showcase some of our Alpacas and Alpaca related products. Come join us on October 14, 2017 for a day of historic celebration!

Time for our annual Alpaca Fest right here in Toano! come out and celebrate with your local alpaca herd! October 7th,8th, and 9th at the newly renovated Fox Wire Farm Alpaca Store and Boutique. Located at 8105 Richmond Road Suite 201, Toano, VA. Stay tuned for more details!

PPP Festival

Fox Wire Farms will be attending the PPP festival on July 15th, and July 16th. Be sure and come out and show your support and enjoy what looks to be a nice weekend by the river!

Camp Day 5

Day 5

·        9:45 – 10 A.M. -  Meet at FWF Boutique

·        10 A.M.  Get on the Bus!

·        10:15 Park and Hike!

o   See active farming in progress as we make our way to today’s farm animals.

·        11:00-11:40 Tennessee Walker Horses

o   Learn about the care and maintenance involved with horses.

o   Learn proper grooming techniques.

o   Learn what “muck a stall” means.

o   Feeding time/treats.

·        11:45-12:25 Kunekunes Miniature Pigs

o   Campers will have a chance to get up close and personal with all the little piggy’s.

o   Again we will learn what kind of diet it takes in order to be able to remain “organic.”

·        12:30- 1:00

o   Snacks/Lunch

·        1-1:45 Farm Project Workshop

Today we will make organic bird feeders with Teddy to help bring birds to their new homes.

·        1:45-2:00 Clean up and return to FWF Boutique.

Day 4

·        9:45 – 10 A.M. -  Meet at FWF Boutique

·        10 A.M.  Get on the Bus!

·        10:15 Park and Hike!

o   See active farming in progress as we make our way to today’s farm animals.

·        11:00-11:40 Chickens!

o   Campers will learn the history and role of the chicken in different cultures.

o   We will learn the tedious process of picking and preparing fresh eggs.  Campers can pick out their own eggs to take home.

o   Learn about the special diet they maintain in order to stay healthy and completely organic.

·        11:45-12:25 Miniature Donkeys

o   Like Donkeys…only smaller!

o   We will learn about the practical side of donkeys, as well as the companionship side.

·        12:30- 1:00

o   Snacks/Lunch

·        1-1:45 Farm Project Workshop

Bird House, Day 4. Gluing down all decorations and designs with Teddy for our personalized one of a kind birdhouse

·        1:45-2:00 Clean up and return to FWF Boutique.

·        11:00-11:40 Nigerian Dwarf Goats

o   Today we meet the Dwarf Goats!

o   Learn why they are called “Dwarves”.

o   We will learn about the wide variety of uses for goat’s milk.

·        11:45-12:25 Jersey Steer Calves

o   Rescued and raised to pull carts and other farm chores.

o   Learn how the importance of diet is, especially for cows.

·        12:30- 1:00

o   Snacks/Lunch

·        1-1:45 Farm Project Workshop

Bird House, Day 3. Creativity time with Teddy!  We will be gathering pebbles, sticks, anything the campers want to use to adorn their birdhouse.

·        1:45-2:00 Clean up and return to FWF Boutique.

o   Today we will learn the history of the Alpaca and their role in the world today.

o   Meet award winning champion alpacas.

o   How their fleece has become a staple in the world today.

o   Hands on training on handling alpacas.

o   What it means to be a “herd” animal.

o   Ross & Jack. Guard Llamas. That’s all we can say here.

·        12:30- 1:00

o   Snacks/Lunch

·        1-1:45 Farm Project Workshop

Bird House, Day 2. Base Painting their birdhouse and designing the next stages of their creation with Teddy!

·        1:45-2:00 Clean up and return to FWF Boutique.

Paca Fact of the Day
